Hughes starts thepoem with Pike, three inches long, perfect using this as a start todescribing the Pike, he begins to build up the Pikes image as apredator, always being a predator with no change undeniable throughevolution therefore using perfect as other way of saying that thepike was designed perfectly as a predator and bequeath never need tocha nge as it will always remain supreme in its habitat. Pike in allparts, green tigering the gold the use of the word tigering givinga similarity of the Pike to the Tiger, completely different creaturesbut in their own worlds they are effective as deadly as each other, theTiger being supreme in the jungle just as the Pike is supreme in theriver. Assuming that the poet was on a micro boat owls hushing the bungleing woods he hears the owls in thewoods that seems to float as he sits on this boat, frail on my earagainst the stargaze just managing to he ar the owls as the only noise -almost as if the owls hushing the rest of the woods to be silent,adding more fear to this trip just keeping him aware of this worldthat seems so much like a dream. Darkness beneath nights nefariousnesshad freed this meaning the evil of the water beneath the nightsdarkness and also the darkness of the Pike, as darkness is associatedwith evil, now moving freed under him, that rose slow towards me,watching. The pike, the evil slowly rising towards him watching hisevery move, he makes it as if the pike seeing him as prey, slowlyapproaching him, ready to strike.
